Get to know us
We believe that communication with parents is a fundamental part of nursery life. When your child attends our nurseries you will receive a daily verbal and written report on the day’s activities and your child’s general wellbeing. Each of our children are also given their own private online journal which our team update regularly with images and details of things they have enjoyed. These galleries are entirely private, but offer the opportunity for parents and nursery carers to update each other on the child’s development, and our parents love receiving the photographs of their children playing and learning. We also publish seasonal newsletters and hold biannual parent/staff meetings. Our aim is to work in partnership with parents and children.
Our nurseries
Murrayfield – Our nursery is a detached building which was acquired in January 2004 by the present management team. Maintenance and refurbishment work was undertaken, and full approval was granted by all relevant authorities. The nursery opened in April 2004. The nursery is a two-storey detached building, originally constructed in 2001. The ground floor accommodates our toddlers and young learners, and the 1st floor caters for our younger children, amounting to 48 children in total per day.
Blackhall – This setting is a two-storey detached building acquired in the summer of 2015 and after extensive renovations opened in March 2016. This setting is registered for 71 children per day accommodated over 2 large baby rooms on the upper level and 5 bright and airy playrooms on the ground floor for the older children.
Owner/Director – Anne Hunter
Anne is the sole director and has owned Bright Sparks – Murrayfield since 2004, after 11 successful years of providing high quality, family orientated child care, she decided to expand. She identified a suitable property and following extensive renovations opened the doors of Bright Sparks Blackhall in March 2016. Anne is our highly trained Child protection officer and is very hands on within both settings. In her spare time Anne enjoys spending time on the golf course and going for walks.
Additional Support Needs
An additional support need comes from anything which is a barrier to learning. The education authority has many legal duties towards children with additional support needs. Partner and Affiliates
NDNA: Member
We joined the National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) in 2016. Their goal is to promote quality in early years care and education for the benefit of children, their families and the local community. The NDNA provide updates and guidance on policy and procedures which we follow at Bright Sparks.
NHS: Child Smile Partner
As a partner of the NHS Child Smile scheme, each child in our nursery has a personal toothbrush and cleans their teeth daily. We are proud of our sparkling smiles, and through the Child Smile scheme we help encourage good oral health and education. You can find out more here.
Edinburgh College: Placement Partner
As a placement provider for Edinburgh College, we provide students with the opportunity to gaining practical experience with our skilled staff team. Students are never counted in our ratios and are always supervised by a qualified member of staff.
